What's The Difference?

  • CPR is designed as a basic training skill for the general community of non-healthcare professions. Anyone, age 10 and over, are eligible to become CPR certified. *

  • CPR is the first steppingstone skill to becoming a competent asset for your community within certain emergencies.

  • CPR centers around saving a life during cardiac arrest by performing chest compressions to circulate oxygenated blood, operating an AED device and blowing air into the victim's lungs.

  • CPR courses have different opinions from CPR with first aid training and AED to CPR chest compressions only. For more information, please visit American Heart Association course catalog for a list of the different CPR certifications. All certifiable with Nurses That Teach!

* While all are eligible, the ability to perform CPR is based more on body strength than age. All students must be able to demonstrate safe and accurate skill for certification. If you have concerns, please reach out to our instructors.

  • BLS is comprehensive and is geared toward medical professionals and first responders, whereas CPR courses teach skills anyone can learn

  • BLS covers a range of emergency medical techniques, including AED use, airway management, Heimlich maneuver and CPR.

  • BLS certification is generally more intensive and complex than CPR training.

  • While BLS does cover CPR and AED, CPR will not cover the same material as BLS.

  • ACLS builds on BLS training with more sophistication, interventions and procedures. It is tailored exclusively for healthcare providers working in clinical settings or advanced pre-hospital care.

  • ACLS focuses on more advanced cardiovascular life support, such as airway management, pharmacology, electrical therapies, intraosseous access and resuscitation algorithms.

  • ACLS certification is more intensive and complex than BLS training.

  • While ACLS does over BLS techniques, BLS will not cover the same material as ACLS

*ACLS does not cover pediatric life support. Please see information about PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
